Client: Dorset Orthopaedic
Location: Ringwood, Hampshire
Project Value: £1.05m
Project Timeframe: 14 weeks
The team at Jade Aden Interiors were proud to design and install an advanced fit out at the flagship building of Dorset Orthopaedic. The client needed to move locations to unify their teams under one roof rather than working in three separate buildings across Ringwood, Hampshire. As a world-leader prosthetic production, the client required a medical facility designed and fitted out to above standard regulations that met exacting staff and patient needs.
Dorset Orthopaedic needed more than a normal office space, as the flagship building is to be used as a manufacturing facility and clinic for patient rehabilitation and consultation.
The designs had to reflect the functionality required for each space while also representing the company as a leading manufacturer of prosthetic limbs. The practicality of each room needed to allow their staff to do the best job possible, so no stone was left unturned when it came to detail.
What We Did
This was an incredible project to be part of, and the team worked extremely hard to make sure no stone was left unturned in their design and installation.
In simple terms, our job was to relocate their business from three separate sites into one cutting-edge headquaters where the client could deliver all their services under one roof. But in doing this, we had to completely upgrade the new building and develop a world-class site where the client can provide unrivalled treatment for their patients.
In designing the space, there were two main considerations; the customer journey throughout the building and disabled access. Every aspect of the building is DDA-regulated.
Over the course of 14 weeks, we designed and installed everything the client needed in their 14,000 square-foot building.
Throughout the facility, we kept the colours light, working with white walls and maple features, such as doors, reception desks and acu-panels, to offer a premium and personal feel, which wasn’t cold or corporate. This design choice was made to ensure patients and staff immediately feel comfortable and at ease in a clinical setting.

Clinical Spaces
The clinical rooms needed to be easy to access, with plenty of space to allow clients to use the room in a way they could test their prosthetics.
The light fittings in these rooms, which are also used in manufacturing spaces, have a higher CRI rating so that the team at Dorset Orthopaedic can better colour match prosthetic limb colour with their patient skin tone.
Alongside the clinic rooms is a gym area. This space has a slightly different feel to the clinic rooms as it has an open ceiling with exposed soffits, piping, and ventilation units, giving off a chic, modern industrial vibe. We laser-levelled lines to ensure the contrast from white to black was 100 per cent accurate, resulting in a stunningly stark aesthetic.
In the gym, the backing to the acu-panels differs as we installed a black felt to match the black ceiling.
Manufacturing Facility
The manufacturing side of the building has an industrial and durable feel. This was specifically designed to match the use of the room – it needs to be able to last with all the work that will take place in the rooms.
The flooring is exposed concrete, specific electrical installations, and metal trunking, all of which are hard-wearing.
Again, these spaces have the higher CRI-rated lights to help the team colour select more accurately and produce the highest quality prosthetic products.
Moving upstairs, the light fittings are on the walls of the staircase to facilitate easy maintenance. The ceilings on the stairs are high, which would make changing lights difficult if the fittings were up there.
It was important that we created a refuge space so, should there be an emergency, wheelchair users have a safe area to go and call for the assistance they need.
Within the manufacturing space, they keep private and confidential data, which needs to be locked away. Space optimisation was key when designing the building as they needed to be able to use every inch available. With this in mind, we added a compact storage facility that opens section by section through spinning handles. When all closed, there is a simple key to lock the facility, meaning the patient records are easy to get a hold of but also safely locked away.
Parts of the manufacturing facility must be kept at specific temperatures, so we had to install a VRF system that regulates temperature between a one degree range.
Office Area
The building is also home to the HR, marketing and admin departments, so we needed to create a functional office space.
One of the most important spaces to create was the breakout space for employees, where they can take their break, socialise or step away from the hustle and bustle of other parts of the building to complete their work.
The space was designed to feel light and airy, with a light grey felt behind the acu-panels to match this. Additionally, we used glass partitions with branded manifestations (the circle is the O from their logo) to create an open feel with branding on point.
It was also important to maintain the premium medical feel in the office space, so white walls, maple features and light materials for dividers were used. This creates a cohesive feel throughout the building, so should a client visit each part of the client-facing spaces, they appreciate the open flow of the building.
Managing the Project
Our lead project manager was the point of contact for Dorset Orthopaedic. It was vital to have this central point of contact because there were so many aspects of the work being done. This gave the entire project a unified centre to work from.
We pride ourselves on our communication, but it was never more important with this project. We felt it was important for each team from Dorset Orthopaedic to collaborate in the design of their workspace so we could meet their needs in a stylish, personal, and functional way.
The End Result
The result is a multi-purpose building that enhances the customer journey while enabling every team member to provide the best service and product they can.
Every part of the building is DDA compliant, meaning their customers can be confident when visiting they will be able to access and navigate every space they need without hassle.
